George Clare (painter)
George Clare (born 1835 ; died 1890 in Barnet, Herfortshire ) was a British painter.
Life
George Clare was a well-known still life painter from the 1860s. He had three sons, of whom Oliver Clare (1853-1927) and Vincent Clare (1855-1925) followed in their father's footsteps and also painted still lifes.
Clare had a studio in Birmingham and later worked in Barnet. Clare was under the influence of William Henry Hunt . He painted small-format, detailed flower and fruit still lifes, often with bird nests. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1864, 1867, and 1868 , the British Institution in its final years, and the Royal Society of British Artists .
