George Dima

George Dima , actually Gheorghe Dima (born October 10 or December 28, 1847 in Kronstadt , † June 4, 1925 in Cluj-Napoca ), was a Romanian composer and member of the Academia Română.

Dima was a student of Ferdinand Heinrich Thieriot in Graz and the Leipzig Conservatory . In 1881 he became the conductor of the Romanian Music Association in Sibiu ( Transylvania ) as well as a seminar music teacher and church music director. Numerous compositions appeared in print.

He was the namesake of the Gheorghe Dima State Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca .
