George Ford (born March 16, 1993 in Oldham ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as a connector for the England team and the Leicester Tigers .

childhood and education

Ford grew up as the son of Mike Ford , a former national rugby league player and later national coach for Germany . His brother Joe Ford is also a professional rugby player. George began rugby at the age of five, initially in rugby league like his father . As a youth he played for the Wigan Warriors and the Bradford Bulls, among others . Together with his future national team colleague Owen Farrell , he attended St George's School in Harpenden. In 2011 he was voted best player at the Junior World Championships.

Career

Ford made his debut for the Leicester Tigers in 2009 at 16 years and 237 days. He was the youngest English player of all time who came to a use for a professional team. Previously, Owen Farrell had held the record. In 2013 he won the championship title in the English Premiership with Leicester . After the season he moved to Bath, where he scored the most points in the championship in his first season and was named the best young professional in the league. He returned to Leicester for the 2017/18 season.

National team

Ford made his national team debut at the 2014 Six Nations against Wales . The following year he was nominated for the world championship . In 2016 and 2017 he won the Six Nations with England. In 2019 he was nominated again for the English World Cup squad .
