Owen Farrell (born September 24, 1991 in Billinge Higher End , Greater Manchester ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as a liaison for the England national team , the British and Irish Lions and the Saracens .

childhood and education

Farrell grew up as the son of national player Andy Farrell , who was best known as a rugby league player. He began rugby at the age of eight, initially like his father in the rugby league. He attended St George's School in Harpenden , which specializes in developing rugby talent. He later studied economics at Hertfordshire University . He was the captain of the U16 team and also active for the U17, U18 and U20 England.

Career

Farrell made his debut for the Saracens in the Anglo-Welsh Cup against the Scarlets at the age of 17 . He was the youngest English professional player of all time. He won the English Premiership with the Sarries in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 . He was also victorious in the European Champions Cup three times : in 2016, 2017 and 2019. In 2017, after winning the final over ASM Clermont Auvergne, he was named Player of the Year in Europe.

National team

Farrell made his national team debut at the 2012 Six Nations against Scotland . His first attempt was against Australia in 2013 . In the same year he was nominated for the first time for the British and Irish Lions and came in the last game of the test series against Australia for a use. On the next Lions tour to New Zealand, he was back in the squad. This time he was part of the starting line-up in all games in the test series against the All Blacks . In 2017 he was named vice-captain of the England national team and in 2019 he took over the captaincy from Dylan Hartley .

Farrell was nominated for the World Championship in both 2015 and 2019 . With England he won the Six Nations in 2016 and 2017.
