George Hagan

George P. Hagan (* 1938 in Accra ) is a Ghanaian philosopher, anthropologist, university professor and politician of the Convention People's Party (CPP) in Ghana . Hagan is married to Maria Hagan and has three children.

education

As a child, Hagen attended various schools in Accra , Koforidua , Sekondi and Kumasi , as his parents were often transferred to other locations as employees in the Civil Service . In Accra he attended St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School and made his Ordanary Level Certificate there . He later attended St. Augustine's in Cape Coast for his Advanced Level Certificate . Hagan studied Philosophy and African Studies at the University of Ghana in Accra, graduating with a BA (Hons.) In Philosophy and a Masters in African Studies. He was awarded a PhD in Social Anthropology from Oxford University , UK.

Career as a university lecturer

In 1968 Hagan became a lecturer and research associate at the University of Ghana. In 1978 he was already a senior lecturer and in 1984 an associate professor. In the 1997/1998 academic year Hagan was Director of African Studies. He was involved in various university institutions, for example in the university administration or in the committee for disabled students.

Political career

Hagan is a well-known supporter of Ghana's first president Kwame Nkrumah . He was a member of various organizations such as the State Construction Corporation . Hagan was Ghana's representative at the UNESCO Conference on Human Rights and a member of the Ghanaian Anti- Apartheid Committee. Hagan was in the presidential elections in Ghana 2000 against the CPP of incumbent President John Agyekum Kufuor (NPP), but achieved only 115,641 votes, or 1.78 percent. In the CPP, Hagan holds the office of the flag bearer.
