George Haydn Huntley

George Haydn Huntley , usually G. Haydn Huntley , (born July 14, 1905 in Endicott, Whitman County, Washington , † April 24, 2001 in La Mesa, California ) was an American art historian .

Life

He studied art history at Harvard University (BS 1927, AM 1930, Ph.D. 1933). He began his professional career in 1932 as an instructor at Washington University in St. Louis, where he became an assistant professor in 1936. In 1938 he became an assistant professor of art history at the University of Chicago . In 1946 he became an associate professor, in 1948 professor of art history at Northwestern University , and in 1973 he retired.

Huntley was particularly concerned with the art of the Italian Renaissance, his dissertation dealt with Andrea Sansovino , and the art of the 18/19. Century.
