George Niven

George Niven (born June 11, 1929 in Blairhall , † July 18, 2008 in Kingussie ) was a Scottish football goalkeeper who in the 1950s and 1960s for Glasgow Rangers and Partick Thistle in Scottish Division One , the highest Scottish at the time Division that was active.

Career

Niven turned professional for the Glasgow Rangers in 1951 and played his first game against FC Aberdeen in April 1952 in the last game of the season. He stayed with the club for over 10 years, played 327 games, won five Scottish championships during this time , twice the Scottish Cup and the League Cup .

In 1962 he moved to Partick Thistle Football Club , for which he completed 232 games. In the seasons 1962-63, 1963-64 and 1967-68 he was without exception in all championship games on the field. After Niven was downgraded to the second goalkeeper in the 1968-69 season and was no longer used, he announced his retirement from professional football.
