John George Schetky (born June 1, 1776 in Edinburgh , † December 11, 1831 in Philadelphia ) was a Scottish-American composer, cellist and music publisher.

The son of the German cellist and composer Johann Georg Christoph Schetky came to Philadelphia in 1787, where his uncle, the composer Alexander Reinagle , played an important role in musical life. He performed there as a cellist and worked as a teacher, composer and conductor. From 1803 he was with Benjamin Carr , the The Musical Journal for the Piano Forte out, the first music magazine that appeared in the United States. From 1806 to 1811 he was Carr's partner in the music publisher Carr & Schetky . He was also active as a freelance publisher.

From 1809 Schetky was a member of the Amateurs of Music , a forerunner organization of the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia , of which he was one of the founders in 1820. In protest against the British-American War he went to Scotland in 1812, from where he returned to the USA in 1817. Only a few of his compositions have survived, including six songs as well as some dances and piano works.
