Matthias Luchsinger (born August 27, 1919 in Nidfurn ; † March 18, 1984 in Lucerne , entitled to live in Nidfurn and Lucerne) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

Matthias Luchsinger was born on August 27, 1919 in Nidfurn. He had two sisters and attended elementary school in Nidfurn. Then he switched to the Evangelical Middle School in Schiers . Luchsinger studied at the ETH Zurich and became a graduate engineer. After graduating, he found work in an engineering office in Lucerne and therefore settled in Lucerne with his family.

Matthias Luchsinger was President of the Lucerne Artillery Association and later became an honorary member of the association. In the military field, Matthias Luchsinger achieved the rank of major .

Between 1959 and 1973, Matthias Luchsinger was a member of the Lucerne City Parliament (Great City Council) at the municipal level. In 1973 he was elected to the Lucerne City Council (city government), where he held the office of building director. After the resignation of Hans Rudolf Meyer, he also became city ​​president of Lucerne in 1979 . He held this office until his death in 1984.

In his eleven years as construction director, he was responsible for numerous construction and planning projects. The car-free old town of Lucerne, the lakeshore path from the Verkehrshaus to the Tribschen, the Jesuit forecourt and the modernization of the buildings and sports facilities on the Lucerne Allmend deserve special mention. In his honor, the square at the Casino Lucerne on the Lucerne National Quai was named Matthias-Luchsinger-Platz .

Matthias Luchsinger married Gret Streiff in 1948 and became a father of two.
