Friedrich Berchtold

Friedrich Berchtold (born June 13, 1834 in Lucerne , † February 24, 1883 in Geneva , resident in Lucerne) was a Swiss politician (liberal).

Johann Evangelist Xaver Friedrich Berchtold was born as the son of Johann Ludwig Berchtold and Elisabeth Berchtold, née Knörr. Berchtold attended schools in Lucerne. He then learned the trade of a businessman / trader. After completing his training, he worked for the Knörr company and his uncle Friedrich Knörr's son as managing director.

At the municipal level, Friedrich Berchtold began his political career when he was elected to the Lucerne City Council in 1863. He was a member of the city parliament from 1863 to 1867 and from 1875 to 1879. From December 26, 1863 to November 30, 1867, Berchtold was a member of the Lucerne city council . On December 26, 1864 he was appointed mayor. He asked for time to consider the acceptance of the election and turned down the office on January 5, 1865. From 1864 to 1871 he was a district judge. In 1877 he became president of the gymnastics supervisory board.

His political career at the cantonal level was membership in the Lucerne Grand Council (today Cantonal Council ), to which he belonged from 1871 to 1879.

Friedrich Berchtold was a sponsor of gymnastics and from 1861 to 1874 president of the Lucerne Citizens Gymnastics Club. He was also a member (and temporarily) President of the Lucerne Chamber of Commerce. Berchtold was one of the founders of the cantonal animal welfare association. He was also the owner of the Krienserhalle inn in Kriens for a while .

Friedrich Berchtold never married and spent the last years of his life at 10 rue de Paquis in the city of Geneva, where he died on February 24, 1883.
