Joseph Mazzola

Joseph Mazzola (born April 1, 1799 in Lucerne ; † June 4, 1871 in Lucerne, legal resident in Lucerne) was a Swiss politician (conservative).

biography

Joseph Mazzola was born as the son of the banker Johann Evangelist Mazzola and Jacobea Mazzola, nee Falcini. His grandfather Giuseppe Mazzola had immigrated from Domodossola (in today's Italy) and settled in Lucerne in 1798. He trained in banking at the Balthasar Falcini Bank (from 1843 Bank Mazzola and Sons). He became a partner in this bank on the Kornmarkt in Lucerne. From 1828 he held several offices in the judiciary. From 1827 to 1832 he was a district judge. From 1830 Mazzola was a city judge and from 1831 to 1832 an assessor in the Peace Court of the City of Lucerne. Between 1828 and 1836 he also held various positions in the welfare sector (administrator of the support fund for the city of Lucerne, poor and orphan council). From November 17, 1832 to December 14, 1838 he was President of the cantonal Chamber of Commerce (then called Chamber of Commerce).

At the municipal level, Joseph Mazzola began his political career in 1841. In addition to being elected to the Lucerne city council , Joseph Mazzola was also elected city president on June 5, 1841. He declined both offices after a period of reflection.

His political career at the cantonal level began when he became a member of the Lucerne Grand Council (today the Cantonal Council ), of which he was a member from 1828 to 1831, 1841 and from 1845 to 1847. Mazzola represented the constituency of Lucerne. In the 1831 election he refused to be re-elected. In 1831 Joseph Mazzola was a member of the Constitutional Council. On September 21, 1841 he was elected a member of the government council (cantonal government) of the canton of Lucerne. He also rejected this choice. From August 4, 1841 to July 15, 1843 Mazzola was a member of the cantonal postal commission.

In the military sector, Joseph Mazzola was a member of the Cantonal War Council from 1827 to 1828. On December 30, 1832, he was promoted to quartermaster.

Joseph Mazzola married Anna Krauer on June 18, 1821.
