Hermann August Heller (born January 28, 1850 in Lucerne ; † June 25, 1917 in Wilen near Sarnen , legal resident in Lucerne) was a Swiss politician (liberal, then FDP ).

Hermann Heller was born on January 28, 1850 in Lucerne as the son of the doctor and liberal politician Johann (Jakob) Heller and Friederike Heller, née Torrent. Heller attended secondary school in Lucerne. He then started to study law at universities in Basel, Munich and Heidelberg and became a Dr. iur. After completing his studies, Hermann Heller began his work as a district judge in 1876, became president of the court in 1877 and continued this activity until 1891.

His political career at the cantonal level was, on the one hand, membership of the Lucerne Grand Council (today Cantonal Council ), to which he belonged from 1877 until his death in 1917. On the other hand, he was party president of the Liberals of the Canton of Lucerne.

At the local level, his political career began in 1887 when he was elected to the local citizens' council. He was president of this body from 1891 and remained so until his death in 1917. In 1891 Hermann Heller was elected to both the Lucerne city council (city government) and the city ​​president of Lucerne . He gave up both offices in 1916. He was also president of the urban liberals.

Hermann Heller was a member of the National Council from 1891 to 1917 . In 1899 he was President of the National Council. Hermann Heller was also president of the radical democratic parliamentary group. He was also a member of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank and President of the Lucerne branch from 1906 to 1917 .

In addition, Hermann Heller was active on several boards of directors of private companies. He also sat on the Board of Directors of the Swiss Federal Railways .

Hermann Heller was married to Franziska Josefa (called Fanny) Aregger and had a son with her.
