Paul Erwin Kopp (born September 17, 1900 in Lucerne ; † September 13, 1984 there ; entitled to live in Niederönz and Lucerne from 1924) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Kopp was born on September 17, 1900 in Lucerne as the son of SBB officer Friedrich (called Fritz) Kopp and Emma Kopp, née Thierstein. Kopp attended schools in Lucerne and then studied at the Universities of Lausanne and Zurich . He obtained his teaching diploma from the University of Zurich and continued his education in Grenoble, Nancy and Paris. He then worked from 1924 to 1941 as a secondary teacher in Lucerne. From 1941 to 1945 Paul Kopp was the first head of the personnel office in Lucerne.

From December 22, 1938 to September 11, 1941, Kopp was a member of the city ​​council of Lucerne. At the cantonal level, Kopp was a member of the Lucerne Grand Council (today Cantonal Council ) between 1943 and 1961 . On September 30, 1945 he was also elected to the Lucerne City Council (city government). He was an educational counselor there. In addition to his work as director of education, he was elected mayor of Lucerne on October 25, 1953 . He held both offices until 1967.

In addition, Kopp was President of the Winkelried Foundation, Central President of the Swiss Civic Society and founder of the Lucerne Citizenship Courses. Lucerne's cultural scene was one of his concerns, and he played an active part in promoting it. In the military field, he held the rank of lieutenant colonel .

He was married to Josephine (Finy) Wyss. His son Hans W. Kopp (1931–2009) was the husband of the first Federal Councilor Elisabeth Kopp .
