Gustav Schaller

Gustav Josef Schaller (born November 28, 1866 in Lucerne ; † December 9, 1945 there , entitled to live in Emmen LU and Lucerne) was a Swiss politician (liberal, then FDP ).

biography

Gustav Schaller was born on November 28, 1866 in Lucerne as the son of the miller and trader Franz Müller and Martha Müller, née Wolflisberg. Schaller attended elementary school and high school in Lucerne. He then started to study law at universities in Leipzig, Munich, Bern and Heidelberg and became a Dr. iur. After graduation, Gustav Schaller worked as a lawyer / advocate in his hometown of Lucerne.

His political career at the cantonal level was limited to membership in the Lucerne Grand Council (today the Cantonal Council ), of which he was a member from 1917 to 1919 and from 1923 to 1935.

At the municipal level, his political career began in 1907 when he was elected to the Grand City Council (Parliament of the City of Lucerne). He was a member of this body until June 30, 1915 and again from 1919 to 1923. In 1912 he was President of the Grand City Council. In 1916 Gustav Schaller was elected both to the Lucerne City Council (city government) and to the City President of Lucerne . As a city councilor, he headed the police department. He gave up both offices in 1919.

Gustav Schaller was also politically active on a national level for a short time. From 1917 to 1919 he was a member of the National Council. He was also a member of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank from 1917 to 1943 . From 1935 to 1938 he was president of this body.

Gustav Schaller was also active on numerous boards of directors.

Gustav Schaller was first married to Rosa Muth in 1895 and then to Elisabetha Stoffel in 1926.
