Johann Winkler (politician, 1805)

Johann Winkler (also Hans Jost ; born September 20, 1805 in Gelfingen , † August 10, 1863 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician .

Life

Winkler attended high schools in Solothurn and Lucerne . He then went to study law at the universities in Munich and Vienna . After his return he became a lawyer in Sursee in 1831 , and then in Lucerne from 1832. He retained his license to practice law until the end of his life.

From 1834 to 1841 and again from 1854 to 1863 he was a liberal Lucerne Councilor . In addition, he was Lucerne City Councilor from 1835 to 1840 and City Councilor of Lucerne from 1845 to 1860. In addition, he was a member of the provisional government of Switzerland after the Sonderbund War in 1847. He had in the years 1854-1860 of the Office of the Mayor held from Lucerne and was also 1859 Lucerne Schultheiss .

Winkler had the greatest power in 1858 and 1859. During this time, in addition to his offices as City Councilor, City Councilor and Mayor, he was also Councilor for Lucerne. The Lucerne canon and theology professor Joseph Winkler was his brother.
