National Quay
The Nationalquai in Lucerne is the section of the quay between the Grand Hotel National (hence its name) and Palace Lucerne hotels on the right bank of Lake Lucerne . To the west of this is the Schweizerhofquai , to the east the Nationalquai is extended by the Carl-Spitteler-Quai .
Originally it was only a short distance from the Hotel National. With the construction of today's casino (at that time Kursaal) it was extended in the 1880s to the level of today's Seebadi (formerly Haldenstrasse bathing establishment, Volksbad). With the construction of the Hotel Palace Luzern in 1904/1906 it got its current length. The quay is planted with two rows of chestnut trees. In the middle of the quay (between the casino and the palace) it crosses Matthias-Luchsinger-Platz - named after the former mayor Matthias Luchsinger .
