Georges-Henri Wenick received his training in what was then the Saint-Paul monastery in Liège from his two relatives Corneille and Nicolas-Henri de Tiège. After his training Wenick held a position as organist in Aachen . From April 1740 he was organist at the collegiate church of Saint-Denis in Liège, two years later he was ordained a priest. During this time he looked after the choirboys. In the memoirs of the most famous of these, the composer Grétry , there are harrowing details about how the sadistic Wenick tormented the little singers entrusted to him.

Due to disputes with members of the Chapter, he was ordered to Rome in 1750 . Wenick was regularly to be found there in the so-called “Fondation Darchis”, also known as the Liège College. Wenick was relieved of all monastic functions in absentia in March 1753. His property was sold a year later to service his debtors. The Liège composer Jean-Noël Hamal reported that Wenick had a position as organist in Cassino, Italy, from 1754.
