Georgi Danschow
Georgi Danschow ( Bulgarian Георги Данчов ; born July 27, 1846 in Chirpan , † January 19, 1908 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian painter. His stage name was Sografina .
Life
Because of his commitment against Ottoman rule, he was exiled for life in 1873 . However, in 1876 he managed to emigrate to Russia . However, together with the Russian troops he returned to Bulgaria in the course of the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877/78 .
In his artistic work he created icons and murals in particular. However, many portraits of Bulgarian artists and activists made in oil or lithograph by him have also survived . His work is described as the transition from religious to secular realistic painting.
