Georgy Slatev-Chercin

Georgi Dimitrov Slatew-Cherkin ( Bulgarian Георги Димитров Златев-Черкин * April 23 . Jul / 6. May  1905 greg. In Ruse , Bulgaria ; † 29. March 1977 in Sofia , Bulgaria) was a Bulgarian composer and singing teacher.

Slatew-Cherkin studied piano and theory at the State Music Academy in Sofia for two years . Then he moved to Vienna to the Academy for Music and Performing Arts , where he graduated in 1929. In addition, he took private lessons from Joseph Marx and Theo Lierhammer .

From 1926 to 1936 Slatev-Cherkin taught singing at the State Music Academy in Sofia. From 1936 to 1938 he was assistant to Theo Lierhammer in Vienna. From 1940 to 1944 he had a teaching position in Sofia at the State Music Academy. From 1944 to 1948 he was professor of this college, from 1948 to 1954 its rector and from 1955 to 1958 singing teacher in Beijing and Shanghai.

Georgi Slatew-Tscherkin composed two operettas, several cantatas as well as songs, choral works and the Bulgarian national anthem Bulgarijo mila , which was in use from 1950 to 1964. One of his students was the soprano Anna Tomowa-Sintow .
