Georgi Chapkanov
Georgi Todorow Tschapkanow ( Bulgarian Георги Тодоров Чапкънов ) (also called Tchapp ; born January 24, 1943 in Wulchidol near Varna , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian sculptor .
life and work
Tschapkanow studied from 1961 at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia . Since 1974 he has been a professor of fine plastics there. He was represented with his work at all major exhibitions of modern Bulgarian art. Publicly available plants are located in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg , the Pushkin Museum in Moscow , in the National Gallery (Sofia) , the IOC in Lausanne , in the Lalit Kara Academy in New Delhi , in Moran Open-Air Museum in South Korea and in Hakone Open Air Museum in Japan .

Tschapkanow designed a bust of the director Federico Fellini .
In Berlin he is represented with the four meter high sculpture “Breaking through walls”, which he created for the Bulgarian embassy there . An unharmed naked man throws up his arms, but he has an armless and headless companion with him, who is also injured on the side. The sculpture is located on the corner of Leipziger Strasse and Mauerstrasse , which marks the course of Berlin's long-torn medieval city wall . From 1961 to 1989, Mauerstraße also led to the Berlin Wall .
Chapkanov created the statue of Saint Sofia , which was erected on the important Independence Square in Sofia in 2000 .
