The Georgianum in Ingolstadt

The Georgianum is a building from the 15th century in the old town of Ingolstadt . The three-storey building is completed by a high, three-storey saddle roof. The eastern part of the building complex consists of the secular chapel of St. Peter and Paul. Over the years, the building served various facilities and was structurally slightly modified several times.

history

The building was built between 1494 and 1496 by Duke Georg the Rich after being donated by the Georgianum . Until May 1800 the building housed the second oldest Catholic seminary . After the seminary and the university were moved to Landshut and Munich, the building was empty until 1809. The complex and the church were then sold to private individuals, with their furnishings being auctioned in the course of secularization and the tower being demolished.

In 1817 the Herrnbräu brewery set up an inn with brewing and malting facilities in the Georgianum. With the gradual relocation of the brewery, only the administration remained in the Georgianum from 1964. From 1972 the property was leased to the Gummi Kraus company , which was the new name of the house for many Ingolstadt residents for years .

The city of Ingolstadt acquired the complex nine years later. After the company moved to the industrial park in 2000, the building was again vacant and was opened for guided tours and cabaret events. In the same year a development association was founded, the aim of which is to preserve the Georgianum. Since 2006 - until the building is finally used - two rooms on the ground floor have been used by the LIONS Club Ingolstadt for a book bazaar.
