The Georgsbrunnen in Augsburg is dedicated to Saint George . The fountain figure, which was designed by an unknown artist and made by the redsmith Veit Dietsch in 1565, shows Georg as a knight with a riding armor and helmet , but without the horse, which is otherwise common in iconography, such as the dragon lying on the ground at his feet a lance kills .

The fountain has often changed its location throughout history. It was initially set up in front of the Herrenstube (opposite the old town hall). In 1833, the figure was added to a well on the Metzgplatz are worth seeing before Stadtmetzg accommodated. Since 1961 the fountain figure has been on the fountain column in front of St. Jakob . Only in 1993 did the figure come back to the city butcher.
