The church was built by Mieszko I before 992 and was one of the many sacred buildings on the Wawel. In 1346 the church was built by Casimir III. the large one in the Gothic style. After the partition of Poland in the 18th century, Krakow came to the Habsburgs , who set up barracks on the Wawel and demolished numerous buildings on the Wawel for a parade ground in 1802, including St. George's and St. Michael's Church .
