Gerald Wolf (diplomat)

Gerald Wolf (* 1959/1960 in Wuppertal ) is a German diplomat . He has been Ambassador to Eritrea since October 2018 .

career

After graduating from high school (1978), Gerald Wolf spent two years as a contract soldier in the German Armed Forces. From 1980 he studied law and passed the 2nd state examination in 1989 .

In 1990 he joined the foreign service and completed the preparatory service for the higher foreign service by 1991. After an assignment in the Foreign Office, his first assignment abroad took him to the Embassy in Seoul in 1992 , where he stayed until 1995. This was followed by a transfer to the Tirana embassy , where he was promoted to deputy head of the embassy in 1996. From 1998 to 2001 Wolf worked in the Foreign Office in Berlin, then until 2004 he was Deputy Head of the Tallinn Embassy and from 2004 to 2008 he worked again in the Foreign Office.

In 2008 Wolf was delegated to London. There he first worked in the Foreign Office and from 2009 in the German embassy. In 2012 he went to Turkmenistan, where Wolf became deputy head of the embassy in Ashgabat . From 2014 to 2015 he was employed as an exchange officer at the Latvian Foreign Ministry in Riga . From 2015 to 2018 Wolf was deputy head of the embassy in Pyongyang , North Korea .

Wolf has been ambassador in Asmara ( Eritrea ) since October 2018 .
