Gotthilf Ludwig Runge

Gotthilf Ludwig Runge , also Gotthilf Louis Runge , (* 1809 in Berlin ; † June 28, 1854 there ) was a German architect and art historian .

Life

After attending grammar school in Neuruppin , Runge trained as a surveyor and studied at the Berlin Building Academy until 1829 . He then worked practically with Christian Gottlieb Cantian , T. Stein and Carl Ferdinand Langhans . In 1830 he became a member of the Berlin Architects' Association . In December 1836, after completing his legal clerkship , he passed the master builder examination. He then worked for Karl Friedrich Schinkel until 1840 . With a design for a country palace , he emerged victorious in the competition at the Berlin Art Academy in 1839 . As a prize he received a travel grant for two years so that he could travel to Great Britain, France and Italy from 1840 to 1842. He worked as a construction manager until 1845, when he was appointed master builder in the cathedral building commission with the right to the title and income of a construction inspector . In 1847 and 1848 he was employed by the Oberbaudeputation and from 1849 agricultural inspector at the Ministerial Building Commission. From 1849 to 1854 he also taught as a lecturer at the building academy, specializing in building materials, appraisal, building management and building police. He published numerous art history studies and inventories of historical objects. From 1836 to 1840 he was a board member of the Architects' Association in Berlin and from 1838 co-editor of its Architectural Album .
