Gerardo Dottori (born November 11, 1884 in Perugia , † June 13, 1977 ibid) was an Italian painter , poet and author of Futurism .

Life

Dottori attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in his hometown and came across Futurism in 1912. He was particularly close to Giacomo Balla . During the First World War he wrote and published under the pseudonym “G. Voglio “Poems. In 1920 he founded the magazine “Griffa!” Together with Presenzini Mattoli. In 1926 he moved to Rome, where he lived until 1939 and also worked as a journalist. Together with other futurists, he has repeatedly exhibited in Italy and internationally. Back in Perugia, he teaches painting at the local academy.

Dottori's special position as a futurist is mainly related to the second futurism and aeropittura , the "air painting". In 1929 he was one of the signatories of the "Manifesto de l'aeropittura" together with the other futuristic painters Giacomo Balla , Enrico Prampolini , Fortunato Depero , Fillia (Luigi Enrico Colombo), Benedetta (Benedetta Cappa), Tato ( Guglielmo Sansoni , 1896–1973), Mino Rosso and others. In 1933 he painted “Il Duce” and in 1941 he wrote the “Manifesto Futurista Umbra dell 'Aeropittura”. In 1967 he signed the “Futurismo oggi” manifesto, together with Benedetto, Acquaviva, Bruschetti, Dalmonte, Crali, Pettoruti, Marasco and Sartoris. This manifesto was accompanied by an exhibition in Formia . He remained faithful to Futurism as a painter until the end of his life.
