Gerbertus pit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerbertus Grube (also: Gerbertus dictus Grube * 13th century; † 14th century) was mayor of the city of Brilon from 1299 to 1300.

Life

Gerbertus belonged to the patrician family Grube, which is also proven in Herford in a leading position. As early as 1283, Gerbertus was mentioned in two documents as councilor of Brilon (then Brylon) under Mayor Wichmannus de Givelinchusen . In the urban system of the Middle Ages, this required that he had acquired citizenship and belonged to an important guild. Unfortunately, the documents still preserved today do not give a comprehensive overview of his activities at that time.

Gerbertus Grube was on May 13, 1299 together with Brilon councilors in an agreement between the Soest dean Gottfried, who was also involved in the pastor of the Brilon church and local obedientiar . Gottfried allowed the rebuilding of the burned down Nikauskapelle in Brilon. As a condition he demanded that the pastor of the mother church or a permanent vicar from Brilon should provide them. Gerbertus Grube sealed the corresponding certificate together with the councilors (consules) Gerhard called Goldenere, Gerlach de Hallenberg, Albert Sardo, Hermann called Jungelinc, Johannes de Lederike, Johannes de Monte Martis, Hermann Luscus and Hermann Wesceli. It also sealed the Soest Dean, Pleban Werner as permanent vicar of the Brilon Church, as well as the city of Brilon.

In the awareness of burgeoning independence, the city had developed more and more to independence during the lifetime of Grube. In 1276 she became a member of the Hanseatic League . As early as 1271, Engelbert II von Falkenburg († 1274) gave her court rights. These conditions ensured a prosperous increase in the population. The construction of a colossal town hall also fell at that time . Brilon was also involved in military conflicts at this time. To this end, protective alliances were concluded with other cities and extensive trade relationships were established.

Due to the differentiated spelling of the time, it is likely that the Gerbodo Grube mentioned in the documents , who was mayor from 1300 to 1306, is identical to Gerbertus. Although Mayor elections have been held annually on November 11th since Brilon was granted town charter, most of the incumbents have been re-elected several times and have performed their functions for several years in a row. Apparently he also had offspring. As was customary at the time, the firstborn sons were usually placed in the positions of fathers. A Johannes Grube later appears in the Brilon files as mayor and judge.
