Gerd Thienes

Gerd Thienes (* 1966 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

As a teenager, Thienes practiced athletics at the performance level and worked as a trainer in the junior division.

He studied at the German Sport University in Cologne . In 1998 his doctoral thesis (subject: "Motor speed in cyclical motion sequences") and in 2008 his habilitation was accepted at the Technical University of Dortmund . From 2007 to 2010 Thienes was a substitute professor for sports science with a focus on training and movement at the University of Osnabrück . In 2010 he took up a professorship for training and movement science at the Institute for Sports Science at the Georg-August University in Göttingen .

His main research areas include children and youth training, school sports, diagnosis and control of motor skills and motor development. In 2000 he published the book “Flexibility Training. Basics, training methods , performance control ”and in 2016 together with Martin Baschta the volume“ Training in School Sports ”.
