Gerd Zimmermann (born September 26, 1949 in Jüchen ) is a former German football player .

From 1968 to 1980 he played in the Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach , SC Fortuna Cologne , Fortuna Düsseldorf and Union Solingen . He was German champion with Gladbach in 1970 and DFB Cup winner with Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1979 and 1980 . During the 1982/83 season he moved on November 6, 1982 from Union Solingen to Fortuna Cologne. Zimmermann made his debut on May 8, 1973 in the German U-23 national team , in whose last 5 games he was used. In the European Championship qualifier against Poland on September 5, 1973, he scored a goal.

Zimmermann was considered the most powerful player in the Bundesliga at his time. In 1978/79 he scored 13 Bundesliga goals as a defender and scored 44 goals in 203 Bundesliga games. His "flutter men", shot at the gate from 30 to 35 meters away, were feared by the gatekeepers.
