Gerhard Thoma Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gerhard Thoma Prize is a non-endowed prize that has been awarded annually since 1953 by the Tax Advisory Institute as part of the Tax Advisors Congress in honor of Gerhard Thoma to one or more young scientists for the best tax monograph (dissertation or habilitation thesis) or for life's work a personality is forgiven. The topic of the thesis should ideally be just as practical as it is scientifically demanding. Anyone whose work has been published by this date can apply. The Gerhard Thoma Prize serves the purpose of honoring outstanding scientific achievements that have been made for the promotion of tax law and business taxation.

Gerhard Thoma (1904–1973), tax advisor and sworn accountant, played a key role in the development of the tax advisor profession. He assumed that a modern economic constitution also requires modern tax law. The culmination of his work was the passing of the Tax Advisory Act .

Alongside the Albert Hensel Prize, the Gerhard Thoma Prize is probably the most prestigious and important award in the field of national tax law. The chairman of the jury is (as of 2016) the economist Wolfgang Kessler .
