Gerhard Best

Gerhard Best (born April 9, 1957 in Werl ) is a Catholic theologian , bell expert for the Archdiocese of Paderborn , cathedral chapter and author .

Life

After graduating from the Mariengymnasium Werl in 1977 , Best studied theology and philosophy at the theological faculty in Paderborn . From 1982 to 1988 he was a full-time sexton at the Provost Church of St. Walburga in Werl. From 1988 to 1990 he attended the seminary in Paderborn, where he was ordained a priest on June 2, 1990. Gerhard Best received his doctorate with the dissertation bells and ringing in Westphalia . He spent his time as vicar in Hamm, where he also worked as a hospital chaplain. In 1993 he became parish vicar in Barge . Later he was pastor at the Möhnesee and in Lippetal.

Best is currently a pilgrimage rector in Werl. He is also dean of the Hellweg dean's office and acts as deputy chairman of the priest council in Paderborn. He has been a member of the Paderborn Metropolitan Capital since February 2015, and Archbishop Becker appointed him a non-resident Canon.

Since 1977 he has been a bell expert in the Archdiocese of Paderborn together with Theo Halekotte, and since 1994 in a leading position. He provides the exact descriptions of the bells and their classification for the Diocesan Museum in Paderborn.

His bell appraisals are a prerequisite for any restoration work on the tower or bell cage. He published several articles in the yearbook for bell science .
