Gerhard Casimir Ubaghs

Gerhard Casimir Ubaghs (born November 26, 1800 in Berg , Limburg, Netherlands, † February 15, 1875 in Leuven , Belgium) was a philosopher and Catholic theologian.

Life

He was ordained a priest in 1824. In 1825 he became professor of philosophy at the seminary of the diocese of Liège. From 1834 to 1860 he taught philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven . Some of his theses were initially reprimanded non-publicly by the Roman religious authority (" Holy Office "), but were then formally prohibited from being presented in lectures (judgments of October 11, 1864, March 2, 1866, August 30, 1866). Ubaghs accepted this decision ( Silentium obsequiosum ) and gave up his chair.
