Gerhard Gensch

Gerhard Gensch (* 1950 in Fürth ) is a German publicist , communication scientist and music curator.

Life

Gerhard Gensch grew up in Fürth, Franconia. After studying music a. a. at the Nuremberg Conservatory he worked as an editor in Karlsruhe and Frankfurt / Main. From 1980 to 1984 he studied journalism and communication science at the Free University of Berlin, where he received his doctorate with a thesis on news value theory (2000). From 1984 to 1988 he was a lecturer in the Southern African News Agency Development Project of UNESCO in Zambia and Botswana and then editor-in-chief of the epd regional service in Frankfurt / Main.

From 1999 to 2015 Gensch worked at the Danube University Krems (Austria), where he headed the central communication department and from 2003 the center for contemporary music. He developed the first European master’s degree in music management, founded the Austrian Mobile Music Day in 2008 and was also a member of the music jury of the Austrian “ImpulsProgramm creativwirtschaft”. From 2002 to 2015 he was curator Campus Cultur at Danube University Krems .

Gensch has been teaching for many years a. a. at universities in Latvia, Indonesia and Germany. In 2013 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Stradiņš University in Riga (Latvia) .

From 2004 to 2015 Gensch was a board member of the Ernst Krenek Institute Private Foundation . Since 2018 he has been chairman of the Eduard Erdmann Society .
