Gerhard Lutz (artist)

Gerhard Lutz (born December 22, 1942 in Munich ) is a German artist (mainly ceramicist ) and photographer.

education

After graduating from high school in Munich in 1962, Lutz enrolled at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich a year later , where he studied art history. In addition, he received in- depth training in painting from Adolf Hartmann and in sculpture from Heinrich Kirchner at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . After becoming a master class student with Heinrich Kirchner in 1967, he graduated from grammar schools in 1968 and graduated a year later from the diploma course.

Teaching

Work as a ceramist

Lutz has been making ceramic objects from stoneware and porcelain since 1977. The result is no classic vessels, but free artistic structures, as Lutz himself puts it: “When you first look at the shapes of my objects, they are reminiscent of things from nature, such as B. bones, mushrooms, fruits, marine and micro-organisms. Often a simple, ball-like overall shape contrasts with a complicated "inner workings" or with filigree finely perforated surfaces " . The artist is interested in the multilayered structure, the shell-core relationship. His works have been part of over 100 exhibitions worldwide since 1979.

Working as a photographer

As early as the early 1970s, Lutz appeared as an excellent photographer. The artist mainly takes photographs in black and white, with a focus on the imaging of architectural forms or technical details and the representation of body landscapes. Awards

Lutz has received numerous awards for his extensive and qualitatively outstanding work. Among other things, he received the Bavarian State Prize (gold medal) in 1983. Gerhard Lutz has been awarded diplomas in numerous, also international, ceramic competitions. B. 1986 and 1989 at the International Ceramic Competition in Mino (Japan) or 1987 and 1990 at the International World Small Pottery Triennials in Zagreb (former Yugoslavia).
