Gerhard Müller (born September 24, 1953 ) is a German chess player .

In Nahschach he played between 1974 and 1993 in the second Bundesliga and the third highest division, the Oberliga. In June 2017 it reached its highest rating of 2133.

He was the winner of the 34th German Correspondence Chess Championship , which began in 2002 and ended in 2005. In 2003, 2007, 2009, 2015 and 2019 he became German correspondence chess team champion with SV Osnabrück , in 2005, 2011 and 2017 runner-up. In 2006 he was appointed correspondence chess grandmaster . In the final of the XVII. Correspondence Chess World Championship, which ended in 2007, he finished 5th. In 2011 he won with the German team in the XVII. Correspondence Chess Olympiad and was thus team world champion.

His best ICCF Elo number on January 1st, 2008 was 2603 (65th place in the world rankings 1/2008). His current rating is 2574 (as of January 1, 2020, 41st place in the world rankings 1/2020).

Professionally, he was employed as a qualified psychologist / psychological psychotherapist in a psychiatric clinic .
