Gerhard Pietzsch

Gerhard Wilhelm Pietzsch (born January 2, 1902 in Dresden ; † July 6, 1979 in Mannheim ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Gerhard Pietzsch received his doctorate in 1928 under Willibald Gurlitt in Freiburg im Breisgau and completed his habilitation in Halle an der Saale in 1931. In addition to activities at various universities, he was also employed as a dramaturge at theaters. His main focus in musicology was on older music history, where he made an important contribution to the development of the sources of court music. Another focus of my work was organ music.
