Gerhard Reincke

Gerhard Reincke (born August 29, 1906 in Breslau ; † February 26, 1984 ) was a German librarian .

Life

Gerhard Reincke attended the Lichterfelde high school from 1916 and the Steglitz high school from 1918 . In 1924 he began studying classical philology , classical archeology and philosophy at the University of Berlin , moved to Tübingen after two semesters and returned to Berlin after two semesters in 1926. There he received his doctorate in 1929 under Eduard Norden .

After a traineeship at the Berlin University Library in 1931 and the State Library in 1932 and the specialist examination to become a librarian, he became an extraordinary librarian at the Berlin State Library in 1933 , a regular librarian in 1935 and a library councilor in 1935. From 1946 to 1951 he was director of the acquisitions department of the Public Scientific Library, the successor to the State Library in East Berlin. Here he reorganized the deposit copies and the exchange relationships after the war.

In 1953/54 he was acting head of the library of the Rome department of the German Archaeological Institute .

From 1954 until his retirement in 1971 he was deputy director of the Freiburg University Library , from 1958 as senior library councilor, from 1970 as library director. In 1971 he retired.

From 1947 to 1975 he edited the archaeological bibliography for the German Archaeological Institute .

Reincke was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and a member of the Archaeological Society of Berlin .
