Gerhard Rose (captain)

Gerhard Rose (born October 29, 1906 , † September 13, 1978 in Wustrow ) was a German captain and author of several standard works on shipping .

Rose worked on a sailing ship from the age of 17 and, after attending the Wustrow Seafaring School, acquired the patent for the Great Voyage in 1932 . With this training he went as a nautical officer and captain on various steam and sailing ships. After marrying Edith Misch, he worked as a civilian employee in the Air Force . In the course of the reopening of the seafaring school, he switched back to his original branch and taught nautical and seamanship. In addition to his teaching activities, he wrote several standard works, partly as the head of an authors' collective , such as the three-volume work Seemannschaft . From 1964 to 1970 he went to sea again as a captain for the German shipping company Rostock . His grave is in the Fischlandfriedhof in Wustrow.
