Hörstein Court
The court Hörstein was a medieval administrative unit for a number of villages, which together with the courts Somborn , Alzenau and Moembris the Freigericht Alzenau formed.
Function and history
The Hörstein court was originally an association of villages based on self-government and cooperative structures, directly under the Empire and without a sovereign . In the course of territorialization , however, the courts merged in the Freigericht did not succeed in maintaining their independence and imperial immediacy against the pressure of the surrounding territorial lords, especially since the empire surrendered its rights to these territorial lords over time. In the early modern period , the Hörstein court was only the name of a sub-unit of the free court, which in turn was administered by the respective sovereigns similar to an office . Since 1740 the Hörstein court belonged to Kurmainz .
