Gerlach Cornelis Johannes van Massow (General)

Gerlach Cornelis Johannes van Massow (* 1687 in Neerbosch ; † March 22, 1758 in 's-Gravenhage ) was a Dutch general.

He belonged to the Dutch branch of the Pomeranian noble family von Massow . His father Joachim Heinrich von Massow († 1708) was the third son of a Pomeranian landowner to serve in the Netherlands , where he rose to major in a cavalry regiment. His mother was Geertruida Antoinetta van Zoudenbalch.

Gerlach Cornelis Johannes van Massow, he called himself "van" Massow in the Dutch way, rose to major general in a cavalry regiment in the service of the United Netherlands in 1747 .

In 1719 he married Anna Geertruida de Villegas, daughter of the Baron de Villegas, Lieutenant General of the Infantry and Commander of Breda. The marriage resulted in seven children, including Hendrik Johannes van Massow (* 1727, † 1789), who became a Dutch cavalry master and with his son Godefridus van Massow (* 1761; † 1818), a merchant in the service of the Dutch East India Company and later Councilor in Leyden, this branch of the Massows continued.
