Germán Cabrera (born May 2, 1903 in Las Piedras , Uruguay, † May 30, 1990 in Montevideo , Uruguay) was a Uruguayan sculptor .

After Cabrera studied sculpture with Luis Falcini at the Círculo de Bellas Artes from 1918 to 1926 , his path initially led him to Paris . There the Académie Colarossi and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière were the next stages of his artistic education, where Charles Despiau and from 1926 to 1928 Antoine Bourdelle were his teachers.

In a national sculpture competition in 1930 he received a grant from the Uruguayan Ministry of Education ( Ministerio de Instrucción Pública ). This enabled him to study in Europe and he subsequently traveled to Italy, Greece and France. From 1930 he also worked as a lecturer in various institutions in Uruguay and Venezuela.

He later lived in Venezuela from 1938 to 1944 and from 1946 to 1951, interrupted by a shorter period of return to Uruguay . However, he then took up residence again in his country of birth. At the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s, Cabrera followed another phase of traveling, when he was drawn to Europe, Mexico and the USA.

Cabrera, who has received numerous national and international awards, has carried out extensive individual and group exhibitions both inside and outside his home country, or has participated in them. Numerous works by Cabrera, who worked in the field of industrial design and also integrated works architecturally, are in Montevidean buildings but also in museums and private collections, for example in Germany, England and Spain.
