German (Novgorod)
German was bishop of Novgorod from 1078 to 1096 . He is venerated as a saint in the Russian Orthodox Church . His feast day is February 10th .
Life
German was a monk in the Kiev Pechersk Lavra . He probably became bishop of Novgorod in 1078. During his tenure, the first women's monastery was founded in Novgorod in 1092. He died in 1098.
There was a monastery near Kiev that was named after a German. Possibly he was its founder and before 1078 Igumen .
In 1439 he was declared a regional saint, and in 1549 he was declared a saint for the entire Russian Orthodox Church.
