German Brand Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Brand Award is an industry award for brand management that has been awarded annually in more than 60 categories since 2016 by the privately funded German Design Council . The same foundation also awards the German Design Award .

Award

Companies can apply for the award themselves, or they can be nominated by the German Brand Institute, its expert committees or third parties. The decision for the award is made by a jury consisting of eight people in 2018: Saskia Diehl, Lutz Dietzold, Andrej Kupetz, Günter Moeller, Stefan Raake, Mike Richter, Simone Roth and Christian Rummel.

Price categories

The German Brand Award is divided into three classes. Awards will be given to contributions in “Excellence in Branding” (overall branding), “Industry Excellence in Branding” (branding within an industry) and “Excellence in Brand Strategy, Management and Creation” (brand strategy, leadership and presentation).

In 2018, ten companies received the “Excellence in Branding” award in categories for brand innovation, brand expansion, digitization, brands for products and services, etc. The prizes in the “Industry Excellence in Branding” category were awarded in 2018 in 35 industry categories, for example banks and finance , cosmetics and personal care , chemistry , etc. The awards in the category “Excellence in Brand Strategy, Management and Creation” were awarded in 2018 in 21 categories, for example branding by employees, branding in outdoor advertising , branding by buildings, etc.

criticism

The event is not financed by sponsors, but by the awardees, which has been viewed critically for years. The entry fee for the nomination alone is 449 euros and award winners must invest at least 3150 euros. In addition, there are costs for the books with the award winners and for participation in award events. Overall, this inflation of profit-oriented prices benefits neither the awardees nor the demand for design services, but only the award givers themselves.
