German Historical Institute
The German Historical Institutes (DHI) are six scientific institutes in Europe and North America that are dedicated to researching the historical relationships between Germany and the partner countries.
- Rome (Italy): German Historical Institute in Rome (Istituto Storico Germanico di Roma), since 1888
- Paris (France): German Historical Institute Paris (Institut Historique Allemand Paris, DHIP, IHAP), since 1958
- London (United Kingdom): Deutsches Historisches Institut London (German Historical Institute London, DHIL, GHIL), since 1976
- Washington (United States): Deutsches Historisches Institut Washington (German Historical Institute Washington DC, DHI, GHI-DC), since 1987
- Warsaw (Poland): German Historical Institute Warsaw (Niemiecki Instytut Historyczny w Warszawie, DHIW, NIH), since 1993
- Moscow (Russia): German Historical Institute Moscow (Германский Исторический Институт в Москве, DHI, ГИИМ), since 2005
Since 2002, the institutes have been part of the Max Weber Foundation - German Humanities Institutes Abroad , based in Bonn. In addition to the historical institutes, this federal foundation under public law also includes the Orient institutes in Beirut and Istanbul as well as the German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ) in Tokyo and the German Forum for Art History (DFK) in Paris. The facilities are financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
