The German Pro Championships were one of the most important tournaments in professional tennis before the Open Era . There were similar tournaments in other countries and also the World Pro Championships . Initially, the tournaments took place mainly on hard courts, but there were already on 4th – 6th. October 1912 an indoor tournament in Bremen . After 1945 the events ran under the title German International (1951) and Berlin Pro Championships (1952). At the end of the 1970s there were follow-up events and a. with the WTA Berlin .
