Martin Plaa

Martin Plaa (March 12, 1901 in Bidart , † March 29, 1978 ) was a French tennis player and coach of the 1920s and 1930s.

Career

As a professional player, Plaa was unable to take part in ITF tournaments before the Open Era . In 1931 he won the French championships for professionals in Paris . In 1932 and 1934 he reached the finals there. In 1932 he also won the World Championships for professionals in Berlin .

Although he was denied active participation in the Davis Cup as a professional , he was, for a while, coach of the successful French Davis Cup team around René Lacoste , Henri Cochet , Jean Borotra and Jacques Brugnon , the so-called " four musketeers " .

Plaa died of a heart attack at the age of 77.
