Rälby (German Rälbi , Estonian Swedish Rälbe ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Vormsi ( Vormsi vald ) in Lääne County . The place is in the northeast of the fourth largest Estonian island Vormsi (German Worms , Swedish Ormsö ).

Population and history

Rälby has 19 inhabitants today (as of December 31, 2011). Until the Second World War, the village, like all Vormsis villages, was mostly populated by Estonian Swedes .

The place was first mentioned in 1526 under the name Reuelbue . In 1613 it is recorded as Rewalby and in 1798 as Röhlby .

Attractions

A prayer house of the Baptist congregation has been located in Rälby since 1905 . The movement goes back to the Swedish missionary Lars Johan Österblom, who worked on the island of Vormsi from 1873.

To the west of the village center there is a historic windmill that is open to visitors.
