Diby (German Dibi , Estonian Swedish Dibe ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Vormsi ( Vormsi vald ) in Lääne County . The place is in the northeast of the fourth largest Estonian island Vormsi (German Worms , Swedish Ormsö ).

Population and history

Today Diby has only eight residents (as of December 31, 2011).

The place was first mentioned in 1540 under the name Duederbw . In 1567 the place is recorded as dorp tho Dudder , and in 1627 as Dyby .

Like all Vormsis villages, Diby was mostly populated by Estonian Swedes until the Second World War .

lake

The salty lake Diby järv or Träski järv (Swedish Dibyträske ) is located north of the village not far from the Baltic coast . Its bank has a total length of 1966 meters. With 8.8 hectares of water, it is the third largest lake on the island of Vormsi.
