Population and location

Beacon at Sviby

The village center is not far from the bay of the same name ( Sviby laht ). The elongated headland of Langholm extends to the west with its tip, the Rumpo nina .

port

The main port of Vormsi is located south of the village center of Sviby. From there there is a regular ship connection to the Estonian mainland to the port of Rohuküla .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1540 under the name Zwybu .

A great fire destroyed large parts of the village on June 14, 1932. In 1932/33 the 171 long pier was built that connects the pier with the land.

Sviby Farm Museum

The Sviby Farm Museum ( Sviby talumuuseum ) at Pearsgården gives an insight into the way of life of the local village population and the history of the Estonian Swedes of Vormsi. In the thatched main building there are regular photo exhibitions.
