Söderby (Estonian Swedish Serbe ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Vormsi ( Vormsi vald ) in Lääne County . The place is in the east of the fourth largest Estonian island Vormsi (German Worms , Swedish Ormsö ).

Population and location

Söderby has only two residents today (as of December 31, 2011). Until the Second World War, the village, like all Vormsis villages, was mostly populated by Estonian Swedes .

The place was first mentioned in 1540 under the name Suderbw . In 1565 he is recorded as Södherby . In 1604 the courtyard was built, which was connected to the Magnushof ( Suuremõisa ) further west from around 1753 . Part of the land was donated to the Orthodox parish of Hullo in the 19th century , which was founded in 1886.
